Storing Your Soap
Storing Your Soap
Our cold process soaps cure on the drying racks for approximately 5-6 weeks. They are placed individually in a dry environment so air can circulate around each bar enabling excess water to evaporate making the bar harder and longer lasting.
Oliv & Koko soaps are created using the traditional cold process method to produce natural Glycerin. It is one of the benefits of handmade cold process soaps.
Glycerin is a humectant and attracts moisture to your skin leaving your skin feeling hydrated. The soaps will also soak up any moisture or water around them including steam. When storing, air circulation around them to breathe is good but not a large amount as the scent will disappear.
A cool dry place out of direct sunlight, heat or humidity is the ideal place to store your soap bar. If left in the heat the soap bar will melt and become softer, not lasting as long.
Some commercial soap companies use chemicals to harden the soap and make them last longer. Oliv & Koko does not use these chemicals.
Heat from direct sunlight, or a heater may melt the soap and the pure essential oils scents may fade quicker. A beading effect of the surface of the soap can appear if your soap becomes too hot or there is a lot of humidity. You can wipe this off, it does not affect the quality of the soap.
Paper or cardboard bags or boxes help preserve the scent more than plastic containers or bags. Sealed plastic containers or zip lock bag are not ideal as they are now allowing air circulation.
Tips:
Cardboard shoe boxes are a great way to store soap with an opening in the side.
You can cover your soaps with something light to prevent dust if they are on shelves.
Try and put similar scents alongside one another. Storing different soaps together will mix up and mingle the original scents.
